The Knights Ferry School First and Second Graders went to CSUS in Turlock to see the play “Puss N Boots”. River McCarthy liked when the troll fought with the cat. Alek Barton liked when the ogre turned into a mouse. Grace Harden enjoyed the actors screaming at each other. Vincent Peterson, Ben Cassinetto and Degan Sweet all liked the fight scene and Puss won!

Remember Knights Ferry Community Club’s dinner meeting Thursday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. The March spaghetti dinner in conjunction with the Civil War will be planned.

Carol Davis attended a Gala Party at the McHenry Museum where her old book “The History of Stanislaus County” was on display. She loaned it to be taken apart and copied for a new publication. It is now all restored and the new copies will be available around March. Carol saw the new cover of the book and said it was beautiful (the old one was black).

Condolences go out to the family of Irene Valenzuela on her death. She lived in the Ferry and her children went to Knights Ferry School.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday there were not many in attendance for the citizen forum since all agencies have been cut. Supervisor Bill O’Brien was in attendance. He handed out information of the study going on by the National Parks Service to determine a potential designation of the Covered Bridge as a National Historic Landmark. Carol Davis introduced Gayle Higgens, new chairperson of the Peddler’s Faire. The MAC approved the application for the fair. Dave Voortman put the information on Peddler’s Faire Facebook page. Ramon Martin and JD Wikert gave a presentation on the Salmon Side Channel restoration projects. Lancaster Road has been done, with four landowners providing wet habitats for the salmon fry. Honolulu Bar is ongoing, with the area cleaned of berries and non-native shrubs. They have money to spend by September and want to plan other side channel areas, one on Army Corp park property and the other downstream from Frymire Hill. Everyone wanted more information so they will be back at the next MAC meeting (Feb. 23). Your reporter strongly suggests you put that date on the calendar. Under new business AT&T plans to expand their phone building by 800 sq. ft. to improve their equipment to utilize the fiber optic lines that have been laid.
