This week for Thankful Thursday, the menu features chili dogs with macaroni salad. If you’re too hot to cook, come on down to Rick’s for dinner. Purchase an ice-cold drink and enjoy your meal on the house. Dinner is served from 5pm to 8 pm.
Speaking of cold treats, the Knights Ferry Creamery is now serving summer hours every Tuesday from 4 pm to 7 pm. Grab some tacos from the saloon then enjoy an ice-cold dessert. My personal favorite is a salted caramel, banana, toffee sundae. If dairy isn’t your thing their Freezes are amazing! Comparable to blended lemonades, I highly recommend them.

Sunday, June 21 is Father’s Day as well as the Summer Solstice, which is the longest day of the year and midway to winter. The word “solstice” comes from the Latin words meaning “sun” and “stand still”. For a few days before and after Solstice, it seems like the sun stays in the same position on the horizon, its highest point of the year. Around the globe, Summer Solstice has long been a day to celebrate the Sun in its full glory. From there the days slowly become shorter and we start heading towards harvest and Autumn. So hug your dad, get some sun and take a dip in the river while you can.
However - consider this your friendly reminder that the river is extra high during the week right now. Use extreme caution if you’re going to cool down. No matter how high, always use a life jacket if you’re going for a float. There are life jackets provided by the Army Corp that are free to use if you don’t have one of your own. You can always check the flow before you go at https://www.dreamflows.com/graphs/day.758.php.

I’d like to give a personal shout-out to a couple community members. First of all, a huge thank you to Katie Feichter for all of her hard work she does to keep our water flowing. Katie personally went door-to-door twice this week, in the blistering heat, to hand out notices and keep everyone informed about water issues. Katie is on the water board, which is a voluntary position, and works extremely hard for Knights Ferry. Thank you, Katie, we appreciate all you do so much!
Second to Matthew Lopes and Trusty Film Crew for bringing movie night back to the Ferry. As a mother of two teens, it was so nice to have something for my girls to do in town on a Saturday night. The tennis court was packed with locals to watch the classic, Stand by Me, together. The free popcorn was a big hit with my kids. I noticed people taking a dunk in the river before settling in at sundown. Talk about small town magic. Thanks again, we are all hoping this becomes a regular event.
