This weekend, June 5-7, is the annual Knights Ferry Art & Music Festival. Along with live music across multiple stages, there will be some fantastic local artists selling their creations all along Main Street. Today I’m highlighting three in particular who are all under the age of 12 and born and raised in Knights Ferry.
Ruth Marie Pearl, a rising star in the art of storytelling, will be selling her zines and buttons. With a deep love for animals and nature, Ruth has so far released two stories in the form of a zine. Come by her booth and shop from her collection of adventures between animals and humans. At 10 years old, this writer-illustrator will allow you to take pause and consider the magic there is to find in the animal kingdom.
Atlas Basmajian is 8 years old and has been an active knife collector since age 6. He will have a variety of knives for sale ranging from vintage to new. He will also be showcasing knives from his personal collection. He welcomes all you knife lovers out there to bring a knife or two from your collection to perhaps trade with one of his. It will be a time of sharing in the love of a good trusty knife, to share stories of experiences from elders and to learn more about this special keepsake that offers connection and value for our life’s adventures.
Clyda Rose is 10 years old and showcasing her handmade wallets, pouches and tote bags. She loves repurposing fabrics into useful multi-purpose pouches. Clyda Rose loves community and learning how things work behind the scenes. This spring she was part of a community sewing circle and quickly fell in love with the process of making a good quality, durable pouch. Her newfound passion has produced an array of cloth creations that are so soft, sweet and special. Come pay her booth a visit and check out this young lady’s new business venture.
All three of these young entrepreneurs can be found at Cool Company located on Main Street, Knights Ferry. Cool Company will be open for the festival Friday 12-5, Saturday 11-4 and Sunday 11-4.
Alongside Cool Company, Free Market will be hosting multiple exciting vendors including Knights Ferry’s own Masterpiece Coffee, Elsie’s Electric Vintage, Knights Ferry Flowers, Surreal Gardening, Holly’s Handmade Journals and Rosemarie Sturgill Art.
Kick off festival weekend at Rick’s Saloon for Thankful Thursday on June 4. Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month, between 5-8pm, you can get a delicious meal with just the purchase of an adult beverage. This Thursday they will be serving enchilada casserole with rice and beans. Hope to see you there!
