Dear Editor,
What three things do these events have in common?: Farmers filing bankruptcy caused by increased tariffs in 2018, 2019 and 2025; the current war with Iran; demolition of the East Wing of the White House with the intent of constructing the “White House Ball Room”; the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool disaster; “and upgrades” to the 747 jet Qatar “gave” to the President who believes it is his after he leaves office.
First, they were all unnecessary (the tariffs unnecessary, not helping the farmers).
Second, they bypassed the law or policy established by the US Constitution and without Congressional authorization.
Third, the American taxpayers are footing the bills after we were promised we wouldn’t pay “anything”.
For example, the bailouts to help the farmers, approximately $40 billion, “the war” with Iran, economists estimate overall cost of $130 billion to over $1 trillion, the “zero-cost Ball Room” now carries a taxpayer responsibility of $300 million and the “peeling, green reflection pool,” up to $16 million.
Yet this administration cut $295 billion from Medicaid, $186 billion from SNAP. No money for grandma’s care — but always money for a ballroom and a jet.
Sincerely,
Larry Podolsky
