In response to ongoing – and growing – concerns regarding the behavior of some bicyclists throughout Riverbank, officials have scheduled a community meeting for Monday, July 27.

Mayor Rachel Hernandez, officials with Riverbank Police Services and leaders from the Riverbank, Modesto and Sylvan school districts are coming together to host the session.

Those interested are encouraged to attend; the meeting is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McRitchie Community Center, 6600 Third St., Riverbank.

Often referred to as ‘ride-out activity’ and sometimes posing a threat to public safety, at issue is the reckless and dangerous behavior of bicyclists. In some cases, the large groups deliberately ride to impede traffic and create hazardous conditions on the roadways.

According to the information encouraging attendance at the meeting, Riverbank officials said that the city “is actively working with local partners to address ongoing concerns about illegal activities from bicyclists.”

Included in the meeting will be a review of the current enforcement efforts, as well as updates to existing city ordinances.

There will be an opportunity for residents to bring forth concerns, as well as ask questions, as leaders look to work with the community on ways to effectively deal with the situation.
