George Franklin Torrans, 86, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on July 1, 1939, George lived a life devoted to faith, family, and the people he loved most. He is survived by the love of his life, Deanna Slaton Torrans; his three daughters, Kelly Torrans, Lee Torrans Easterlin, and Shannon Torrans; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael Ray Torrans, whose memory he carried closely in his heart throughout his life.
George and Deanna’s marriage lasted 64 years, and was the foundation of the Torrans family. Known as a man of faith, he enjoyed Bible study, family prayers and a good Church of Christ potluck after Sunday services.
George and Deanna raised their family in Oakdale, California where he relished rural life in the Central Valley. He could always be found at a 4-H horse show, the Stanislaus County fair or hollering at Mike down at Joe Hendricks’ roping arena.
After working 33 years movin’ dirt as an Operating Engineer, George retired and returned to Atlanta, Texas to be near his sister, Martha Fe Watkins, his brother, Kenneth Ray Torrans, extended family and lifelong friends from the church and Atlanta High School, where he graduated in 1957.
A visitation honoring George’s life was held on Thursday, May 14, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hanner Funeral Service in Atlanta, TX. The family is planning a graveside service in Oakdale, CA for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in George’s memory to the Atlanta Church of Christ, 512 E. Pinecrest Drive, Atlanta, TX 75551. Guest registry is available at www.hannerfuneralservice.com
