The Knights Ferry School Graduation took place on the hill overlooking the town Thursday evening. The clouds were scudding above and a rainbow was seen, along with some lightning. After the Kindergarteners sang, their Diplomas were presented. Speaker for the evening was Mrs. Barbara Burroughs, substitute teacher and community member. In her speech she read the yearbook dedication of the 2009 class — to the United States Armed Forces. She also read a letter from her son, Capt. Rhett Burroughs, thanking them for the dedication to those who serve. The gift to the school was a cement patio for lunch benches, with the grads names in the concrete. Board members Nancy Redden and Sherron McCarthy handed diplomas to the 18 graduates. All adjourned to the cafeteria for refreshments when the rain came down in buckets. Talk about timing!

Fourth quarter Renaissance awards for KFS were handed out Friday morning. Meghan Caron, Sage Heckinger, Shaye Spani, Emilie Crossman, Cheli Limon, and Anna Perrone made straight A’s. Those with a B average were Shaela Borba, Justin Doyle, Sophie Jones, Salvador Limon, Daniel Lubeck, Elise Seeds, Madison Willis, Dustin Darnelle, Maria Garcia, Devin Odom, Kai Tanner, Cleo Wilson, Annette Arias, Kaitlin Burke, Jaycee Harden, Andie Jones, Luke Pouncey, Makenzie Weiglein, Alissa Baize, Peyton Paul, Luke Tanner, Charles Wong, Maria Arias, Jordyn Cooley, Aislinn Finn, Marissa MacDonald and Katie Odom. The meeting of the Knights Ferry Community Club enjoyed the presentation by Bridgette Hobbs on the Community Garden. She told how she got started in Oakdale and continued when the family moved to Knights Ferry. The Odd Fellows provided the plot and many community members helped build the beds. The school children visit and work in the garden and usually take a bunch of flowers to a person or business. Bridgett has had groups, 4-H, and adults also working and giving flowers to others. She shared some just-picked strawberries with the group. In new business the club was informed of a plan for development of the river bottom off Frymire and Morrison, 20 five-acre parcels. This is in the planning stage. Also discussed was the July picnic at the park on July 2nd at 6 p.m.

This year Homecoming was a huge success. There were a lot of people from the past visiting the museum. Some of the old-time families represented were: Raggio, Vogt, Hunter, Koster, Hill, Frymire, McCabe, Napier, Morrison and Schell. Some attendees had never been to the museum and were delighted with the displays and information. It was great that some found ancestors listed in the school records and pictures of the old home place. Going through the school records, in 1965 the upper grades at KFS consisted of Beverly Bright, Kristine Kassahn, Theresa Kelly, Robert Brunker, Paul Feichter, Carlene Malcom, Sherrill Peterson, Kathy Ulrich, Anita Beagley, Diane Fitzgerald, Patricia Koster, Elizabeth Sharp and Kurt Kassahn. The table settings were lovely and the Buena Vista display informative. It was a very enjoyable day.
