Knights Ferry News 6-15-22

The weekend was a busy one for the fire crew! On Saturday afternoon, there was a grass fire that closed both the highway and Orange Blossom Road for a few hours. Fire crews worked in the sweltering sun to extinguish the flames. By the evening, the roads were open but some of the crew was on site maintaining the smoldering ground.

On Saturday night, the musical sounds of Willy Tea Taylor and friends echoed through town from the River’s Edge restaurant. It was a beautiful summer night in Knights Ferry and locals and visitors from out-of-town sat on the grassy hillside at the restaurant.

The East Oakdale Fire Safe Council has some exciting news to share. Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Winton was able to secure a grant for $130,000 for a fire abatement project near the exit road from the school. They hope to begin the project soon after they are able to secure the necessary bids and permits. In other fire news, a new five-year contract has been signed with the City of Modesto Fire to man the local fire station in Knights Ferry. In the current contract, the station is manned with two firemen but in the new contract, the station will have three firemen. The third fireman will also be a paramedic. This is very important in our area as a majority of the emergency calls have been some type of medical emergency whether it be a river rescue, car accident, or home call. Thank you to all those in the council who have worked to secure the third fireman in our local station!
