The Valley Magic 16 and under Class A travel team finished up their summer season by winning the Les Schwab Tire Summer Classic 18 and under division in Turlock recently.

The Magic went 5-1 for the weekend, culminating with a 1-0 performance in the championship game against the Delhi Lady Hawks. The Hawks handed the Magic their only loss of the tournament in a 10-6 slugfest a day prior, giving the squad sweet revenge in the title game.

Valley Magic offense was led by Montana Scott and Samantha Ramirez who both hit over .400 for the tournament. Scott batted left handed all tournament for the first time, while Ramirez had an on base percentage of .714. Hannah Hibbdon also had major contributions at the plate, smacking the ball around at a .385 clip for the weekend.

Stephanie Fauria had an RBI double, bringing in the speedy Scott from first base in a close semi-final win against the Tracy Outlaws. Morgan Arndt batted .333 and led the team with 5 RBI. In addition, she pitched a complete game in a 3-1 victory over the Ceres Sizzle.

Jennessa Schieffer handled the majority of the pitching duties on Sunday, throwing 226 pitches over a three-game span. She scattered 14 hits while striking out 18 en route to the Championship win.

Francesca Orvis caught all six games of the weekend. The Magic played phenomenal defense throughout the tournament, with Sara Pallen and Miranda Taylor playing nearly flawless at shortstop and second base, respectively. D’Angel Barnhart and Hannah Bailey helped secure the outfield.

The Valley Magic 16A team will be moving on into the fall season in September. Coaches John Fauria, Kevin Schieffer, Tom Orvis and Mike Arndt are building a team that can hopefully stay together this fall and on into next summer.
