OHS Mustangs

Coming off a convincing 56-12 home win over McNair on Nov. 9, the Oakdale Mustangs quest for another Section title continues. This Friday night the Mustangs welcome the number nine seed, Vanden, to The Corral. The Vanden Vikings come from the Solano County Athletic Conference and are from Fairfield. In their playoff opener the Vikings outlasted the eighth seeded Yuba City Honkers 34-33 in double overtime.

The Mustangs’ 56-point effort Thursday night was the third highest point total by a team in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III, behind Patterson’s 63 and Manteca’s 62. Oakdale is a smash mouth team that can beat teams with their Wing-T offense, and hard-nosed defense. However, if Oakdale is forced to pass the ball, the Vikings will need to watch out for quarterback Marc Dickson. When called upon, Dickson can sling the ball downfield with success. In the team’s opening round victory he connected on a 42 yard bomb to speedy receiver Hunter Falconi.

“We know what we have to do to achieve the ultimate goal. It’s going to be a battle, it always is,” said Mustang Joshua Jacobson. “The teams that are in are very talented. Including McNair, they were a very fast team. They were like lightning in a bottle.”

Kickoff for the Friday night game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
