There is no better feeling than to be acknowledged by your peers for your hard work. This past week the annual Valley Oak League baseball honors went to vote. The eight coaches came together and by the end of the meeting, Oakdale Mustangs players and head coach Chris Henry were named to top honors.

Taking home the Offensive Player of the Year award was junior Jacob Solorio. He batted .487 with three home runs and drove in 15 runs. Catcher of the Year went to junior Max Moore. He played in 90 percent of the games behind the dish and was recognized for his dominance. Moore had a fielding percentage of .989 and batted .432.

Oakdale’s Josh Garcia was one of three pitchers to earn top honors. Garcia went 5-0 as a starter and had an ERA of 0.22. Third baseman Dylan Wright also made first team honors. He had 17 RBI with an average of .367. Former catcher Corey Hinojosa was named one of the top VOL outfielders. Hinojosa batted .500 on the year.

This year Oakdale went to Chris Henry as their head coach following the departure of Nate Gregory. In Henry’s first year the team went 11-3 in league play and the team won the VOL, earning Henry Coach of the Year honors.

Taking home second team honors was first baseman Dane Gibson. Honorable mention went to Alex Daoud, Hunter Ginger and Jake Elting.
