Aty Coleman, age 94, of Oakdale, passed away September 24, 2026. She was born to Adrianus and Alida Dykzeul on September 11, 1932 in Spaarnwoude, Netherlands.
She learned English at a school in Alameda before attending Pasadena City College. Aty initially worked at a dental lab and for an interior decorator before later working as a lab technician for Hunts/Conagra in Oakdale for 33 years.
In Oakdale, she met and married her husband of 52 years, Clayton Coleman, where they raised their family. She cherished her immediate family and her extended Dutch family. She also treasured her Catholic faith. She lived her faith in action, continually reaching out in love to those whom she held dear; lending a listening ear, helping when a need arose or simply sharing laughter and conversation over a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Aty enjoyed decorating, gardening, time spent at the family cabin and traveling with Clayton. For many years she was an active volunteer with St. Mary’s Helping Hands and the Oakdale Senior Citizen Center. Her energy and zest for life were unparalleled, and she was happiest in the company of her family and friends.
Aty is survived by her children Marc (Veronica) Coleman, Jeff (Lori) Coleman, Kelly Kisabeth and Carrie (Dan) Barber; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Ludy (Frank) Damrell of Modesto; and sister-in-law Ann Dykzeul of Modesto. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton; son-in-law Thomas Kisabeth; brothers Pete, Ted, Art and John Dykzeul; and sisters Stiena Zwart, Alida Vink, Maria Stokman, Ann Van Ruiten, Truus Van Nes, Thea Strathof and Coby Rice.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 6 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oakdale. The rosary begins at 10:30 a.m. with the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Oakdale Riverbank Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Covenant Care Hospice, 125 N. Broadway, Turlock, CA 95380.
