On Monday, Oct. 26, U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla (both D-Calif.) announced that the Sierra Northern Railway will receive more than $26 million in federal grant funding to improve railroad performance, expand the Willowood Overcrossing, upgrade signals at five at-grade crossings, and provide more reliable connectivity and safety.
“I am proud to help deliver grant funding for critical safety and modernization upgrades to the rail crossing in Oakdale. From modernizing outdated signals to building a new intermodal facility and doubling the railcar’s capacity, this investment will increase Oakdale’s capacity – keeping Northern California travelers safe and transportation reliable,” said Senator Schiff.
“Investments like these are critical for keeping California’s transportation infrastructure safe, reliable, and ready for the future. By modernizing rail crossings and expanding capacity in Oakdale, we’re strengthening the connections that keep goods moving, support local businesses, and power California’s economy,” said Senator Padilla.
Both senators have been strong advocates for investment in California transportation infrastructure and also recently announced over $53 million from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to repair highways and roads across California.
