A good way to beat the sizzling summer sun is to stay indoors, preferably in a nice, cool, air-conditioned environment.
However, things are starting to heat up inside the Oakdale Mixed Martial Arts Academy on North Second Avenue, home of the Last Stand Fight Team. The academy is offering a youth summer camp class for ages five through 12 Monday through Thursday during the summer.
The annual popular summer classes are back and will be running through the month of July. Sign-ups are still being accepted. The class covers cardio, shadow boxing, and self-defense tactics. These classes teach kids discipline and respect, as well as allowing kids to stay active during the summer. The class also focuses on self-assurance and conditioning. Kids can sign up at the academy through Lori Theofanopoulos. The cost of the camp is $150. Class runs from 10 a.m. to noon each day for the four-day period. The class is taught by lead instructor Bill Theofanopoulos.
