The future looks promising for students of Oakdale High School’s Future Business Leaders of America as they recently competed in the FBLA Leadership Competition. The California Central Section event was hosted in Visalia in early February.

OHS sent 13 competitors from the campus club. Of those 13, seven earned top 10 standings and five will continue on to the state level. The state competition will be hosted in Sacramento in early April.

“We have an FBLA club on campus, but not all students compete,” FBLA Adviser Kellie Felix said. “We attended last year, but did not have any students qualify for state. This is very exciting.”

This FBLA mission statement reads: to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career.

“It’s neat to see that they had the initiative,” Felix said of the students’ preparation and attendance at the competition. “That’s what made it different from past years.

“It’s really a neat group this year,” she added.

Students earned plaques and acknowledgements for the following:

Vincent Albertoni: Hospitality Management; First Place Finalist, State and Management Decision Making; Third Place Finalist, State.

Alexis Cortez: Business Law; Eighth Place Finalist.

Savannah Finney: Agribusiness; Ninth Place Finalist.

Makenzie Perez: Sports and Entertainment Management; Sixth Place Finalist, State.

Camryn Salas: Sports and Entertainment Management; Sixth Place Finalist, State.

Emily Turner: Sports and Entertainment Management; Sixth Place Finalist, State.
