Knights Ferry News 3-04-20

On Sunday, March 1, 2020, Rick Maisel opened the Knights Ferry General Store and Saloon for the first time since 2015. For many years, Rick and his late wife, Glenda owned and operated their local business and many people remember Rick’s Bloody Mary’s, Glenda making knit hats on her loom but I mostly remember the infamous “21 and Over” sign into the Saloon. In 2016, Bethany and Andrew Basmajian opened the store, deli, and saloon and it was run by family and friends up to a few months ago.

Rick spent these last few months planning and readying the store and saloon for his grand re-opening but he has brought in Angie “Spoons” Panelli to run the deli side of the store. Spoons Café and Deli has adorable seating and a well-stocked menu including a breakfast menu! She will be open Thursday through Monday 11:30am-8pm for lunch and dinner and in addition their regular hours on Saturdays and Sundays, they will be open for breakfast from 7:30-10:30am.

The Knights Ferry School Parent Teacher Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year is this Saturday night, March 7, 2020. The Borba family is back in the kitchen serving their delicious food for the fundraiser. Some of their hot items available for auction include a one-of-a-kind knife made by Kelly Vella and a private plane ride where the riders can enjoy a thrill ride of tricks and loops or a leisurely flight over the delta. In the years past, Kelly’s knives have sold for top dollar and the school is so lucky to have people donating unique items like a private plane ride. The event has been moved to the Bianchi Center in Oakdale but they look forward to moving it back to the Community Club in Knights Ferry for the next year!

This year, the Parent Teacher Club’s big goals are to purchase 20 Chromebooks for the 5th grade, 25 additional Chromebooks to be shared by the Kindergarten through second graders, and Smart Boards for the 5th grade classroom and the cafeteria/multipurpose room. In addition to these large purchases, the Parent Teacher Club provides funding for numerous daily impact items and programs such as field trips, the art program, music program, teacher supplies.
