Varsity Hoop Girls Win Pair Of Non-League Contests

The varsity Oakdale High School girls basketball team won a pair of non-league games this past week. Oakdale knocked off Chavez on the road 38-36. The girls fell to Enochs 57-52 at home on Thursday night, but bounced back to beat Buhach Colony 49-31 Friday night at home. In the team’s home loss to Enochs, junior Grace Higle scored a game high 18 points for the Lady Mustangs. Oakdale led 23-22 at halftime and 40-34 entering the fourth quarter, but could not hang on to the lead.

The following night the girls played stellar defense to knock off the Thunder, holding their opponent to just 10 second half points. Oakdale scored 24 points in the third quarter to put away Buhach Colony. Leading the way for Oakdale was Sarah Bohrer with 17 points.

Oakdale was scheduled to travel to Ripon on Monday, Dec. 11 following The Leader’s press time. They also hosted Gregori on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12. This coming Saturday, Dec. 16 the girls travel to Ripon to take on Ripon Christian. Tipoff for Saturday’s game is scheduled for 2 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The Oakdale junior varsity girls went 3-0 this past week. The young Lady Mustangs knocked off Chavez 42-34 on the road to start things off on a good note. Amber Robinson had a double-double in the win as she scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Tayler Lamb also had a double-double for Oakdale with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Two nights later the girls defeated Enochs 33-24. Kayden Legan scored 10 points in the win. Kendra Branch pulled down 11 rebounds and Afton Daley had eight steals and four assists. Oakdale capped off the week with a convincing 44-14 home win over Buhach Colony. Lamb had her second double-double of the week with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Legan added 14 points and had seven steals and Branch finished with 12 points and six steals.

 

FRESHMEN

A disappointing 25-24 road loss to Chavez started the week for the frosh girls. Brooke Crowley had seven points in the road loss. The team followed up with a 50-31 loss to Enochs. Calesta Webb pulled down 11 rebounds in the contest. Oakdale finished the week on a positive note when they defeated Buhach Colony behind 10 points from Madison Jones.
