The Oakdale boy’s tennis team is off to a great start. Oakdale went 2-0 this week in Valley Oak League action. Oakdale knocked off Lathrop on the road 9-0; and followed up with a convincing 7-2 home win over Sierra on Tuesday, March 1.
As the team’s confidence rose after blanking Lathrop, Oakdale hosted Sierra in hopes to improve to 2-0. After a three set loss by Oakdale’s number one singles Spencer Keyser (6-1, 4-6, 1-6); teammates Zack Miller (6-1, 6-3) and Devin Odom (5-7, 6-3, 6-4) helped Oakdale get back on track. Dane Hauskens, Oakdale’s fourth ranked single, fell in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 3-6) to tie the match at two each. From there the Mustangs rattled off five straight wins to take the contest.
Bronson Knowles was pushed to three sets but came out on top (6-4, 2-6, 6-0) for Oakdale, then Angel Padilla put away his opposition (6-4, 6-3) to help lead Oakdale in singles. Oakdale’s doubles closed out the contest with three two set victories. Jacob Pierson and Tyler Ross (6-2, 6-3); Daniel Lubeck and Daniel Davis (6-1, 6-0) and Dustin Hoy and Dimitri Lolonis (6-1, 6-1) all walked away with victories for the Mustangs.
Oakdale went to East Union to clash with the Lancers on Wednesday, March 3. The match was tied at four, but was suspended due to darkness. The match will resume on Thursday, March 24 at Oakdale. The Mustangs (2-0) traveled to Kimball to take on the Jaguars on Tuesday, March 8 following The Leader press time. Oakdale will have a four game home stand beginning Thursday, March 10 when they host Central Catholic. All matches are scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
