Girls Water Polo Team Wins, Boys Fall To Turlock

Oakdale’s varsity water polo teams were in action as they took on the visiting Turlock Bulldogs on Wednesday, Sept. 13. The girls team hit the pool first and the Lady Mustangs were victorious 10-6. Junior Kayla Peterson helped lead the way for Oakdale, scoring five goals. She also added five steals on the defensive side. Four of Peterson’s goals came in the second quarter. Bethany Metcalfe scored four goals for Oakdale and Neesa DeLeon also found the net for the home team.

“Kayla Peterson had a great game, and it shows the teamwork of the rest of the girls to be able to successfully feed her the ball and capitalize on her speed,” said head coach Diane Kline.

On Thursday, Sept. 14 the girls headed to Napa to take on Vintage where they were victorious 6-4. Oakdale trailed 2-0 at the half and entered the fourth quarter down 3-2. Not willing to leave town with a loss, Oakdale outscored Vintage 4-1 in the final frame for the come from behind road win.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19 the girls hosted Lodi after The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 28 in a road showdown with Rio Americano.

For the boys it has been a rough start to the 2017 season. On Wednesday, Sept. 13 the boys fell to Turlock by a 12-4 final. In the contest scoring for the Mustangs came from Stash Perry, Lucas Ryan, David Hill and Branden McAnally, each notching one goal. The boys traveled to Napa to take on Vintage on Thursday night and fell in a 14-8 contest.

Oakdale will travel to take on Downey on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
