Bennie Donald “Don” Shelton, 74, of Springdale, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord January 10, 2021. He was born April 5, 1946 in Alicia, Arkansas, the son of the late Kelly and Ethel Ruth Pruett Shelton. Don was a member of the Elm Springs United Methodist Church. He had served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era where he served on the USS Saint Paul and was a life time member of the VFW. Don retired from the California Department of Corrections at the rank of Captain, after 32 years of service. He enjoyed tinkering in his shop but mostly enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his great grandchildren, Pandora and Atlas.
He was preceded in death by 10 siblings. Don is survived by his wife, Margaret Ruth “Peg” Acton Shelton of the home; children, Timothy Ray Shelton and wife Tammy of New Port, Arkansas, Daniel Kelly Shelton of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, Lisa Bacila of Rogers, Arkansas; brother, Billie Ronald Shelton of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be at Elm Springs Cemetery with Reverend Jennie Williams officiating, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home, 3926 Willowood Avenue, Springdale, Arkansas 72762. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and Rogers VFW post 3031.
