Anna H Vander Well passed away peacefully in Escondido, CA on December 18, 2023 at the age of 86.
Anna is survived by, daughters Denise (John) Van Dyk, grandchildren, Diana (David) Slate, John Jr. (Valerie) and Lorianna (Sam Ely); Carla (Clint) Barth, grandchildren Andrew, Jared, Thomas, and Melissa; son Drew (Jenny) Vander Well, grandchildren Joshua (Samantha), Jessica (Austin) Jager. Also survived by 21 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene (Orval) Van’t Hull. Anna is preceded in death by her parents Edward and (Dena Eppinga) Berghorst, stepmother Hattie Berghorst, sisters Anita Berghorst, Alyna (Jack) Kleinwolterink, and Audrey (LeRoy) Jongetjes.
Anna was born June 5, 1937 in Oak Park, Illinois and at a very young age her family moved to Hull, Iowa where Anna attended Hull Christian and Western Christian High School. After graduating she met her husband Loren W. Vander Well from Rock Valley, Iowa and married September 19, 1956. They resided in Canton, South Dakota when they started their family. They moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota and then moved to Ripon, CA. After living several years in Ripon, they moved to San Marcos, CA where they owned their first business Oceanside Printers; following Oceanside Printers, they owned Oakdale Printers and a restaurant: Sno White Drive In. Anna was also a bookkeeper on different occasions, and along with Loren they were Resident Managers of River Paradise Mobile Home Park. Before Anna retired, her last job was cooking for an Elderly facility when she met Sharon Stubblefield and resided with Sharon until moving to a care home.
Anna was an active member of Escondido United Reformed Church and was involved with Project Phillip and Women’s Bible Study. Anna had a very strong gift of knowing her Bible and Catechism and could recite many verses from the Bible.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Escondido United Reformed Church on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at 11 a.m. with a light lunch following.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations towards the Piano Fund for the Church Sanctuary. This will honor Anna’s love for music.
