Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 4-22-26

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 14 through Monday, April 20. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

MONDAY, APRIL 20

The MST new hire academy went through the burn containers to learn and see the complexities of fire behavior.

The Modesto Engineers Academy started today. Newly promoted engineers will go through extensive training prior to getting on the road.

Battalion 2: Crews completed weekly engine checks on the first out apparatus.

Battalion 5: Companies completed weekly apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Engine 29 had their Lucas Device and Lifepack cardiac monitor serviced by the vendor. This keeps these vital pieces of EMS equipment operating best when we need them.

SUNDAY, APRIL 19

Battalion 5: 5:23 p.m. – Engine 27 was dispatched to a vehicle fire on Patterson Road just west of Langworth Road in Oakdale. E27 arrived on scene to find a truck that was fully involved. Engine 27 extinguished the fire then remained on scene for CHP to arrive.

SATURDAY, APRIL 18

MFD Explorers conducted ground ladder training at Fire Station 17.

Battalion 2: Crews conducted company-level training consisting of rope systems, operational area incident pre-planning, and EMS assessments.

Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on hose evolutions for their company level training on Saturday.

FRIDAY, APRIL 17

Battalion 2: Quarterly EMS training Q2 was hosted at Station 22, with a focus on protocol updates and review.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment maintenance.

Engine 28 attended Quarterly EMS training at Fire Station 22.

Station 28 personnel conducted training on the Stanislaus River.

10:28 a.m. – Engine 29, Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a medical aid for a subject ALOC, altered level of consciousness, after a fall from a bike. Engine 29 arrived and began initial patient care. The patient was flown from the scene by helicopter to UC Davis.

THURSDAY, APRIL 16

Battalion 2: Quint 22 and Water Rescue 26 conducted swift water boat operator training on the Stanislaus River.

Crews conducted exterior station maintenance and worked on outfitting/layout of the new Type III apparatus compartments.

Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s.

Crews completed mandated Target Solution assignments and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.

Battalion 5 companies rotated through quarterly EMS Training.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15

Battalion 2: 2:35 p.m. – Engine 24, E23, Q18, BC2 responded to a rescue with a report of a subject pinned between vehicles. E24’s crew was able to rapidly separate the vehicles and extricate the patient via portable spreaders, allowing ground transport.

Crews coordinated completion of annual turnout inspections phase 1 and conducted station/equipment maintenance throughout the shift.

Personnel attended and participated in the Battalion Chief Assessment at Turlock Public Safety Center.

Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

Engine 29 completed weekly apparatus checks and station maintenance at Station 30 in Valley Home.

TUESDAY, APRIL 14

HazMat team members trained on decontamination procedures and processes for mass decon.

Battalion 2: Battalion 2 companies conducted swift water training on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry. Both boats, 24 and 26, were utilized to complete the training.

Battalion 5: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.

MST boat crews took advantage of the flows on the Stanislaus River and conducted boat operator training. Training focused on boat operations, maneuvering in rapids and removing victims from the river.

3:42 p.m. – Engine 29, Quint 18, and Battalion 2 were dispatched for a possible tunnel collapse in the Knights Ferry area. E29 requested a technical rescue response while they were still responding, which brought Engines 1, 11, 21, 23; Squad 32; Rescue 11; Trucks 1, 5; Battalion 3; and Medic 1. E29 was the first to arrive and advised that three people were unaccounted for in a tunnel. E21 arrived on scene and assumed Incident Command. Following an assessment of the situation by E29, it was determined that one individual remained trapped in the tunnel, one had self-evacuated without injury, and another was rescued by coworkers, sustaining moderate injuries. Crews made entry and determined that the trapped individual was deceased. Cal-OSHA and Calaveras County S.O. are conducting an investigation. Crews remained on scene and assisted with the recovery once the scene was secure.
