An Oakdale man who reportedly held his family against their will and brandished knives at police officers was safely taken into custody on Sunday, Dec. 11.
The Oakdale Police Department received a report around 6 p.m. on Sunday that Lorenzo Avila was holding members of his family against their will.
When police arrived at the residence the suspect was swinging two large knives and refused to drop them, according to a statement issued by the police department. An officer shot Avila with a beanbag gun, but he sat up and reached for one of the knives. Police shot him again with the beanbag gun and he stopped long enough that he was taken into custody and treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
Nobody inside the home required medical assistance, said police. For more details, see the full story in the Dec. 14 edition of the Oakdale Leader.
