Oakdale City Council members and Oakdale Police Chief Marty West recognized two Oakdale citizens for apprehending and detaining a car thief, with recognition coming at the Dec. 5 Oakdale City Council meeting.

Jeffrey Broome and Jono Small noticed a woman acting suspiciously around 7 a.m. on Nov. 19. The woman was walking down the street trying the door handles of several cars. Small and Broome confronted the woman and she ran away, discarding a bag of valuables that were later found to be stolen. They caught up with the woman and detained her until the police arrived.

Police later found that the 37 year-old woman had stolen a car and abandoned it in a nearby church parking lot. She then apparently took items from another vehicle, and was searching for unlocked cars when Broome and Small took notice of her behavior.

“Thanks to these two gentlemen that lady is in custody,” Chief West said.
