Crash Fatality Victim Was In Stolen Vehicle

Oakdale Police said that an early morning collision on Friday, Sept. 13 involved a stolen vehicle. The crash, along Albers Road north of Patterson Road in Oakdale just after 6:15 a.m. Friday, resulted in a fatality.

“We can confirm the 2016 Honda Civic that was driven by the driver pronounced deceased at the scene was reported stolen,” said Oakdale Police Chief Scott Heller.

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Zach Alan Coulter, 26, from Delhi.

Oakdale Police Department officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic collision in the area of Albers Road north of Patterson Road on Friday at 6:18 a.m.

When police, fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene, it was determined one male driver – later identified as Coulter – had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Another driver suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

According to the police report, the Honda being driven by Coulter was northbound on Albers Road north of Patterson Road. It struck another vehicle traveling northbound on Albers from behind and lost control; drifting into the southbound lanes. There, the Honda and collided with a vehicle travelling southbound on Albers, resulting in fatal injuries to Coulter and major injuries to the other driver. The occupants of the vehicle that was originally struck in the rear while travelling north on Albers did not sustain any injuries.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office M.A.I.T, Major Accident Investigation Team, was activated to assist Oakdale Police with the investigation. They are also looking for anyone who may have witnessed this accident.
