Varsity Boys, Girls Take Second In VOL Swim Championships

The 2019 Valley Oak League Swimming Championships were hosted at Oakdale High School on Thursday, April 18. The big meet started at 11 a.m. and all teams in the league competed. Ripon took first place in both varsity boys and girls and Oakdale took second place in both divisions.

In girls action Oakdale scored 108 total points, while the Indians scored 172. Bre Campbell, Ashlynn See, Haley Rivera and Jensen Perry took first place in the 200 yard medley relay. The four also took second in the 400 yard freestyle relay. In the 200 yard IM event See placed second overall and Kayla Peterson placed third. Perry placed third overall in the 50 yard freestyle and Kassidy Houck placed fifth in the event. Perry also placed third in the 100 yard freestyle event and Houck placed fourth. Rivera took third overall in the 100 yard butterfly. See, Peterson, Rivera and Perry placed first in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Hannah Lee placed third overall in the 100 yard breaststroke and Juliette Leibenson placed fourth.

For the boys Ethan Perry, Aron Cameron, Stash Perry and Chandler Neal took first in the 200 yard medley relay. Stash Perry placed first in the 200 yard freestyle while brother Stash Perry placed third in the 100 yard freestyle. Neal placed fourth in the 100 yard. Ethan Perry took first in the 200 yard IM event and first in the 100 yard backstroke. Neal placed second in the 50 yard freestyle and Cameron placed first in the 100 yard backstroke.

“I’ve only been competing for two years on the swim team but it’s surreal that the regular season is over,” said Cameron, who is a senior.

Oakdale returns to the pool on Thursday, May 2 at Tokay High School for girls section qualifying and the following day the boys will take to the pool in Tokay. On Saturday, May 4 the Section finals will take place at Tokay, which is in Lodi. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
