Split For Varsity Soccer Boys, JV Wins Two

Playing two matches this week, the Oakdale High School varsity boys soccer team put a win and a loss on the books.

Following a three-week absence from the field over the holidays, the Mustangs (2-3-1, 2-6-1) returned to action on Tuesday, Jan. 8 when they hosted Weston Ranch (11-6-0, 6-0-0). The first place Cougars blanked the Mustangs 2-0 in the match. With two days’ rest, the Mustangs regrouped and defeated the Central Catholic Raiders (3-9-0, 2-4-0) by a final of 4-1.

In the road win over Central Catholic, the Mustangs scored two first half goals to go up 2-0 at the break. Four different Mustangs scored in the win as three seniors – Juan Mata, Eric Anaya and Miguel Casillas – each scored and freshman Joel Gonzalez also found the net. Sophomore Alexis Aguilar dished out an assist as did Anaya.

Goalkeeping for the Mustangs was senior Daniel Dubiel who had four saves in the contest. On Tuesday, Jan. 15 the Mustangs took on Manteca (1-7-3, 0-4-2) on the road following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale is scheduled to return home to host East Union (13-4-2, 5-1-0) on Thursday, Jan. 17 with a start time of 5:45 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The younger Mustangs improved to 5-1-0 in Valley Oak League play following a pair of wins this past week. On Tuesday, Jan. 8 Oakdale defeated visiting Weston Ranch 1-0 behind a first half goal by Luis Soto, assisted by Kevin Camelin. On Thursday night, Jan. 10 the team steamrolled Central Catholic 8-0. Soto scored three goals in the win. His goals were assisted by Peter Crossman, Ernesto Gonzalez and Lukas Cox. Crossman also scored one goal, Camelin found the net twice, Riley Blount and Lex Bairos scored one goal apiece. The team led 6-0 at the half. On Tuesday, Jan. 15 the boys traveled to Manteca and they are scheduled to host East Union on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
