Rough Rider, Supercross Keep Runners Busy

Oakdale sent some varsity cross country runners to Woodward Park in Fresno for the Rough Rider Invitational, running the 5K course on Friday, Oct. 15.

The varsity boys, paced by the first and second place finishes of Caleb Cavanaugh (16:11) and Dax Daley (16:23) finished second place overall as a team out of 27 competing. Nathan Luca (17:31) took 23rd overall and Mason Oliveira (17:39) finished in 27th place.

The varsity girls, who took fifth place out of 17 teams, got another outstanding effort from Haleigh Humble, taking first overall in 18:50. Kassidy Fmura placed 20th in 20:31; Morgan Merzon, 38th, 21:58; Hanna Beth Norman, 53rd, 22:39.

Saturday competition saw other runners go to the Hughson Supercross hosted at Hughson High School, running a 4K event.

For the varsity boys, Alejandro Felix (16:54) was first across the line for Oakdale in 85th place, followed by Gabe Archuleta (14:14) in 90th and Dimas Saavedra (18:41) taking 125th.

Top finishers for the Frosh/Soph Boys on the 4K course were Jose Buenrostro, 29 in 16:44 and Tyler Raff, 56 in 18:14.

 “We had a split squad this weekend. Haleigh Humble, Caleb Cavanaugh and Dax Daley had great individual performances in Fresno,” said coach Guy Fowler. “We have a few things to work on to get ready for the VOL Championship Meet … I am excited to see what the teams can do.”

The Championship Meet is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 27 and will be staged at Oakdale High School.
