The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Team Duals were held this past Saturday and the Oakdale High School Mustangs reached the finals. However, it was Vacaville claiming a 40-21 victory in the finals over the Mustangs.
The annual event was hosted on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Lincoln High School in Stockton. In the opening round it was Oakdale earning a 72-4 win over McClatchy. The next round, Oakdale put away Folsom 44-19.
“When you wrestle a program like Vacaville you have to be at your very best to win, our team did not live up to that expectation,” said OHS coach Steve Strange. “Hats off to Vacaville for a great showing. If our team responds well, we can compete to win a loaded SJS Masters team race and finish the year with a successful state tournament.”
Grapplers will continue preparing for what remains of the campaign, as they hit full title in the postseason.
The quest for a state championship continues with the Valley Oak League wrestling tournament at Central Catholic on Feb. 2. The meet begins at 3 p.m.
Divisionals will be hosted at Manteca the following weekend.
“The wrestlers and coaches have high expectations for the postseason,” added Strange.
