Oakdale Soccer Girls Win On Senior Night

It was a big night for the Oakdale High School varsity soccer girls, who earned a 7-0 home win on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Oakdale (7-5-3, 3-5-2) defeated Weston Ranch (1-18-0, 0-10-0) in front of a large crowd. The successful home win came following Senior Night festivities. Oakdale honored eight of their senior players as it was their final night to play at Oakdale High School.

“It is emotional, knowing that we are playing here for the final time,” said senior Brianna Montoya prior to the festivities.

Players that were honored were Makena Winton, Krissy Lolonis, Montoya, Payton Bohannon, Francesca Ryan, Leslie Cortes Leal, Emily Leal Parker and Alexandra Casillas.

In the big win, Maquel Besson, Montoya, Chloe Chase, Ryan and Kendra Branch each scored one goal and Bohannon added two goals on the night for Oakdale.

“It was special to play for the Lady Mustangs program and hard to believe that this was our final home game,” said Bohannon.

Dishing out assists in the win were Jade Manriquez, Besson, Lolonis, Daniela Dela Riva and Winton.

Oakdale is currently in fifth place in the Valley Oak League. On Monday, Feb. 4 the girls were scheduled to take on Kimball (6-8-6, 3-4-4) following The Leader’s sports press time. The season finale is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 6 when they take on Central Catholic (2-13-2, 2-7-2). This match is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. in Modesto.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The team did not allow a goal against Weston Ranch in their lone game of the week. Oakdale defeated the visiting Cougars 3-0 on Wednesday, Jan. 30. Goals were scored by Janet Franco, Julie Overton and Alexia Verduzco.
