While four other Valley Oak League varsity football teams floundered with losses in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, the Mustangs preserved league prestige with a one-sided 56-21 win over visiting Christian Brothers on Nov. 12.

That left Oakdale — co-VOL champions — as the last VOL program standing in the SJS playoffs. The team rolled to a possible historic best of 611 rushing yards from the likes of Daniel Linder, Marcus Hernandez, Marcus Northcutt, Gino Valente, Dustyn Schmidt, Chris Sulhoff and Jeff Donnelly in round one’s thorough thrashing of the Falcons.

The team earns collective Athlete of the Week honors from The Leader for their efforts.

Oakdale (No. 5 seed) traveled to take on Placer (No. 4) in the postseason’s second round at Placer High on Friday, Nov. 19.
