Golf Boys Rolling, Tennis Team Also Nets Victory
OM

Taking on a tough course for the Valley Oak League Meet #3, the Mustang golf boys conquered the par 72 Tracy Golf and Country Club to come out on top.

The Oakdale squad carded a team low 442 at the event, followed by second place Kimball at 451. Other VOL teams were East Union, third, 472; Manteca, fourth, 527; Sierra, fifth, 546; Central Catholic, sixth, 552; and Weston Ranch (no score) finishing seventh.

“Nolan Harris finished as the medalist for the third straight VOL Tournament with a score of even par 72. Tough conditions with Tracy Golf and Country Club having performed spring course maintenance within the last week and the ever present wind at this course made for some tricky playing conditions,” explained coach Lee McGhee. “Nolan has led the league with his scores each of the first three tournaments and continued his strong play this week. Cooper Pitney (79) followed up with another solid round finishing with the second lowest score on the day out of the whole VOL, seven teams.”

Also contributing to the solid Oakdale team score were Grant Weber (89), Devyn Scott (101) and Jack Kjeldgaard (101).

“Total team effort to help hold on to the top spot in the VOL,” McGhee noted. “Three VOL matches and three first place finishes. We look forward to continuing our season with eyes on finishing strong in the last VOL match at Manteca next week, April 11.”

Following that final regular season league match, the Mustangs will then take part in the VOL Championships hosted at Creekside Golf Course on Monday, May 2.

TENNIS

It was a 9-0 sweep of Kimball on the road for the tennis team, the Mustang boys putting themselves in good position to battle for the top spot in league.

Singles winners for the boys were Caleb Poling, Jackson Healy, Ryan Krause, Alex Tangle, Ethan Dingu and Carson Stueve. Doubles winners were Niel Ongkingco and Jeremiah Janssen, Tristan Ceja and Dylan Krause, Tristan Ceja and Noah Groom.

SWIMMING

In the last two weeks the OHS swimming team defeated Sierra High School (March 25), had a great meet at the Merced County Championships (March 26), and defeated Weston Ranch (April 1).

“Friday we had two more swimmers qualify in individual events, Kaci Jericoff in the 50 freestyle and Brayden Costa in 100 breaststroke, for the Sections meet in May,” said coach Ron Thompson.

The swimming Mustangs have their last league meet on April 8 against East Union before the VOL Championship meet at OHS on April 14.

DIAMOND NOTES

Oakdale’s varsity baseball team played to a lopsided 18-3 win against Ceres in a home contest on April 1, while the JV boys enjoyed a 10-0 shutout win.

For the Lady Mustangs, they got in a game on the road this past week, defeating Manteca on March 30 by a 5-1 final.
