Following a handful of matches this season, the Oakdale High School girls tennis team remains winless.

Five matches into the Valley Oak League season and the Lady Mustangs continue to search for that elusive first victory. On Tuesday, Sept. 11 Oakdale hosted Central Catholic. The match began with a singles win for Kendra Branch as she won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. However, this would be the highlight of Oakdale’s afternoon as they fell to the visiting Raiders 8-1.

Tayla Barry lost 2-6, 0-6 in a tough match against Central Catholic’s number one singles player. Lijian Bacud battled in two sets but came up short 3-6, 1-6. McKenzie Brown put up a fight in a two set loss, 4-6, 3-6. Senior Shannen Yang and Jessica Garcia each lost in straight sets with an identical outcome of 1-6, 0-6.

Things did not get better for the Lady Mustangs in doubles action, however they were a bit more competitive. The team of Jessica Jericoff and Katelyn Signorelli bounced back from a 1-6 first set loss to take the second set 6-4. In the tiebreaker, Jericoff and Signorelli lost 6-10. Tanna Borba and Savannah Gustafson fell short 6-7, 3-6 in their match and Paige Morgan and Alyossa Jingco lost 2-6, 1-6.

On Thursday, Sept. 13 Oakdale fell to Manteca on the road 9-0. Tuesday, Sept. 18 the girls traveled to Stockton to take on Weston Ranch following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to the court on Thursday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Tracy to face Kimball. Match time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
