It was a nailbiter of a week for the Oakdale High School varsity boys soccer team.
On Tuesday, Jan. 28 the boys shut out Sierra 2-0 and then tied Central Catholic 4-4 on Thursday night, Jan. 30. These contests keep Oakdale’s playoff hopes alive.
In the victory over Sierra, Oakdale scored both their goals in the second half. Goalkeeper Mitchell Benning had six saves for Oakdale. Against the Raiders, four different players found the net for the Mustangs. Jesus Corona, Dylan Krause, Hayden Koehler and Hudson Ruvalcaba all scored for the Mustangs. Abraham Isidro and Dylan Krause each had an assist. Oakdale had a 4-2 advantage at the break but the Raiders scored two goals in the second half to tie it up.
Currently, Oakdale is in fifth place in the Valley Oak League with a record of 4-4-1 with three games left to play. Tuesday, Feb. 4 Oakdale was slated to travel to Patterson to face the Tigers. Oakdale lost to the Tigers 3-0 earlier in the season.
Oakdale wraps up the regular season with a pair of home contests. Thursday night, Feb. 6 Oakdale hosts Mountain House at 6:15 p.m. The Mustangs were shut out 1-0 by Mountain House in their last meeting. On Tuesday, Feb. 11 Oakdale will host East Union for the season finale and Senior Night 2025. This match is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Oakdale lost 5-2 to the Lancers in January.
For the junior varsity it was a 2-1 home win over Sierra in their only match of the week.
