Josephine Cecilia Costa, 80, died Sunday, July 15 after an extended illness at her home.

She was born to Frank R. and Rosalind (Bulcao) Furtado in Byron.

Mrs. Costa was a homemaker and a retired teamster.

She enjoyed traveling, painting, spinning, quilting, gardening, cooking, the ocean, and most of all her family. She was a generous, hardworking, happy, opinionated, enthusiastic, and loving person. She loved her family and was a wonderful mom, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed.

Survivors include her children, Laura (Mike) Harrelson, John (Michelle) Costa, Dan Costa, Terry (Charlene) Costa, Mark (Tina) Costa, Jeanette Senior; brother, Frank Furtado; sisters, Teresa Hamilton, Virginia Furtado; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Frank and Rosalind Furtado; brothers, Tommy, Cyril; sisters, Cecilia, Balbina, Veronica; and niece, Linda.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive St., Oakdale.
