James Merle Russ, 86, died Monday, Aug. 31.

He was born in Texas. He lived in Oakdale for the past 13 years.

He married Amy Richards in 1954. They made their home in California, Kansas, Hawaii, Florida, and Georgia before returning to California.

After serving in the 8th Air Force during World War II, his career included working for Ampex Electronics, Pan American Airlines, Pacific Hawaii Fruit, and as a building contractor in Florida. His retirement years initially were spent in Georgia. Then, he and his wife moved to California to be near their first grandchild.

Mr. Russ lived an interesting life. Family was his priority. He enjoyed gardening, beekeeping, and friends and dominos at the Senior Center. He was a kind and loving father and grandfather.

The family thanks the staff of Oak Valley Hospital, Oak Valley Care Center, Dr. Mahida, and Juris and Aleni Albania of Serenity Hill for their kind care and support.

He is survived by his son, Jay Russ of San Jose; daughter, Carolyn Waggoner of Oakdale; brothers, John of Florida, and Jerry of Virginia; sister, Fay of Marysville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Amy.

A graveside service was held Sept. 5 at Lakewood Memorial Park with a celebration of his life reception in Oakdale.

Remembrances may be made to the Oakdale Senior Center.
