F. David Chaves, 51, died Saturday, June 7 at Stanford Hospital.

He was raised in Escalon and graduated from Escalon High School, Class of 1981. He lived in Escalon for 30 years.

Mr. Chaves was a resident of Oakdale for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Emily M. Chaves; daughter, Kayla and her husband; son, Douglas; exchange student/daughter by heart, Luciana of Brazil; brothers, Felix (Maria) Sousa of Stockton, Isidro (Benvinda) Chaves of Stockton; sisters, Filomena (Manuel) Fontes of Escalon, twin Mary (George) Vieira of Oakdale; mother-in-law, Dalila Duarte; sister-in-law, Lucy (Joao) Machado, all of Turlock; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and godchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joao and Maria Chaves; brother, John Chaves; godson, Justin Chaves; and brother-in-law, Tony Duarte.

Visitation will be from 4p.m to 6p.m. with a rosary from 6p.m. to 7p.m. on Monday, June 16 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 89 North Oak Ave., Oakdale. A funeral ceremony will take place at 10a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, also at St. Mary’s. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 Carrolton Road, Escalon.
