A teen driver died and a passenger was injured in a Friday, May 13 crash along Orange Blossom Road, just east of Bonson Court east of Oakdale.

Stanislaus County Coroner’s officials on Monday confirmed the identity of the fatal victim, Adrianna Screeton, 18, from Stockton.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Screeton was driving a 2015 Nissan SUV eastbound on Orange Blossom Road at about 3:15 p.m. Friday when the incident occurred. Authorities received a call of a traffic collision and emergency personnel arriving on the scene located the SUV, off the south side of the roadway, partially submerged in a pond.

The right front passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Oakdale identified as Alyssa Casias, was transported to Memorial Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver was transported by air ambulance to Doctor’s Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The preliminary CHP investigation indicated that Screeton was approaching a left bend in the roadway just east of Bonson Court, when the right side tires of the Nissan left the south road edge and entered the dirt shoulder. The driver turned the Nissan to the left to re-enter the roadway but lost control of the vehicle as it went back off the south shoulder. The SUV then collided with a wood fence and a series of trees before going in to the pond. The Nissan, which had extensive damage as a result of the collision, came to rest on its left side, partially submerged in the pond.

The coroner’s office had not released a cause of death as of Monday; CHP officials said it was unknown if the victim died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash or as a result of drowning.

Both Screeton and Casias were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.
