Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Nov. 21 through Monday, Nov. 27. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, NOV. 27

Battalion 2: 04:41 a.m. – Stanislaus Quint 22, Engine 26, Modesto Engine 7, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 2000 block of Patterson Road. Engine 26 arrived on scene with nothing showing from a coffee shop in a single-story strip mall. Engine 26 isolated the issue to a faulty espresso machine and the responding balance was cancelled.

Battalion 5: 5 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident with injuries in the 1400 block of F Street in Oakdale. Upon arrival there was a solo vehicle accident in the shopping center parking lot with one immediate patient. The patient was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.

6:11 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC2 responded to a potential structure fire in the 80 block of Willow Glen Avenue in Oakdale. Crews arrived on scene with embers coming from the top of the chimney. Crews confirmed that there was negative extension into the residence and extinguished the chimney fire.

 

SUNDAY, NOV. 26

Battalion 2: Crews completed EMS inventory.

Crews completed on-line training.

Battalion 5: Modesto Engine 29 conducted master stream appliance training.

 

SATURDAY, NOV. 25

Battalion 5: Crews worked on upcoming Battalion Chief exam preparation.

Companies completed annual firefighter skill signoff training.

 

FRIDAY, NOV. 24

Battalion 2: Crews conducted training including hose, ground ladders and aerial operations with Quint 22.

Battalion 5: Crews worked on administrative duties and completed year end workload.

 

THURSDAY, NOV. 23

Battalion 2: Companies focused on engine and station maintenance as well sharing in Thanksgiving festivities.

Battalion 5: 2:12 a.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Crow Creek Drive for an EMS CPR call. Upon arrival of Firefighters and Medics, the patient was found in cardiac arrest. Pit crew CPR was started, ALS care and the Lucas Device was attached. After 10 minutes of care, ROSC was achieved. The patient was packaged and transported to a local hospital with one firefighter on board to assist with patient care.

Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

The Oakdale High School S Club (Leadership Class) delivered snack bags to Stations 27 and 28.

10 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Albers and Claribel for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved and the intersection blocked. Firefighters and Medics treated and packaged two patients with minor injuries. Both patients were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

10:46 p.m. – Engine 29 and Battalion 5 to Highway 108/120, just east of Tulloch Road for a vehicle accident. First arriving crews found a car that left the roadway and rolled down an embankment into a field. Firefighters assisted with extricating, treating, and packaging one patient for major injuries. The patient was flown to a local hospital by air ambulance.

 

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 22

MST crews participated in fourth quarter EMS training at Station 22. Topics included policy updates, advanced airways, and medication administration.

Battalion 2: 6:50 a.m. – Engine 23 and BC2 responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 600 block of Albers Road. BC2 reported a biomass pile burning on the property. Heavy equipment was called in to create fire breaks in the pile. E21/WT21 and WT23 delivered 20,000 gallons of water to extinguish the surface fire. The pile was turned over to the property owner for monitoring.

Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks, along with station maintenance.

Crews completed weekly station cleaning and maintenance at Station 30.

The Oakdale Christian Academy delivered Thanksgiving dinner boxes to Stations 27 and 28.

10:10 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 29, and Battalion 5 to Kennedy Road and Highway 108 for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene with one vehicle rolled onto its side off the roadway. One patient was treated and transported for minor injuries.

 

TUESDAY, NOV. 21

Battalion 2: Crews rotated through Battalion Drills at the RFTC. The topic was High Rise Operations and Target Hazard Buildings.

Companies trained for upcoming promotional tests and worked on completing the annual proficiency task book.

Battalion 5: Crews rotated through High Rise training at the RFTC.

7:36 p.m. – Stanislaus Engine 26, Quint 22, Modesto Engine 7, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 6000 block of Panorama Drive. Crews arrived with a large amount of embers coming from the top of the chimney. Crews operated in the investigation mode to determine that there was negative fire extension outside of the chimney and extinguished the fire.
