School starts Tuesday, Aug. 14 in the Oakdale Joint Unified School District, so the high school and junior high school will have their annual “Round Ups” for students entering seventh through 12th grades.

Oakdale High School will host its Round Ups for juniors and seniors on Tuesday, Aug. 7. OHS Vice Principal Diana Crofts reported that round up for seniors starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m., and round up time for juniors will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, Aug. 8, round up for sophomores will be from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sophomores will be screened with hearing tests in the hearing van. Freshman orientation, hosted by Link Crew, is the morning of Aug. 8 and all freshmen are encouraged to take part. Freshman round up will follow orientation and run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Crofts added that all students will start in the cafeteria with pictures, then go to the “old gym” where they can purchase ASB stickers, yearbooks, PE Clothes, and planners. Plus, Jostens will be on campus on Aug. 7 only for class rings and graduation announcement information. Students will then pick up their class schedules and books in the school library.

Oakdale Junior High School is holding its Round Up on Wednesday, Aug. 8 in the school gym with the eighth graders scheduled to arrive from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Eighth graders will also be screened with hearing tests in the hearing van. Round up time for seventh graders is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Student arrival times are based on alphabetical order of last names. A parent or guardian is encouraged to attend with each student.

“At our Round Up the students get their schedules, PE clothes, school pictures, sign up for OASIS, and parents get information about our PTC,” said OJHS Principal John Simons. “We also get everyone’s records updated – this includes phone, address, and medical records.”

There is also a welcome barbecue lunch for incoming seventh graders on Thursday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the OJHS gym.

California law requires that Tdap immunizations for whooping cough are needed by all students entering seventh through 12th grades. Shot verification is required in order for students to receive their class schedules, so if verification has not been previously provided, the student must bring it to the Round Up.
