On Wednesday, Oct. 26 the Oakdale Central Valley Association of Realtors is hosting a dog walk from Dorada Park to Last Call Brewery to raise money for the semi-completed project of the new dog park next to the Oakdale Junior High School campus.
The dog walk is a half mile that will go past some downtown small businesses and end up at the brewery where a costume contest, drinks, and food will be presented. There will be a prize for best dog costume and best human costume.
The event is free for any community member and any type of dog; donations will be accepted and will go towards the funding to help finish the construction of the park.
The park idea itself began back in 2020 when co-chairs Michelle Thomasser and Jennifer Stasio were walking their dogs on the east side of town and wanted a safe place they could take their dogs to. After dealing with COVID push backs, they finally began to get the approvals needed and soon the project began.
CVAR took charge in being the main non-profit sponsor for the build of the new park.
For those who want to skip the walk and go straight to the meeting spot, the group will arrive at Last Call around 6 p.m., after having the walking group meet at the park at 5 p.m.
“We are still some ways away from our end goal, so any and all donations are appreciated as we try to finish the construction,” Stasio explained. “The city helped with fountains and maintenance but the rest of the things needed for the new park came from the help of the community.”
For more information about the event, contact Thomasser at 209-914-6166 or Stasio at 408-444-1131.
The event will soon have its own Facebook event page where more information and sponsorship packets will be linked on the page.
