theater

If you’re looking to enjoy some good music this summer, look no further than the West Side Theatre in Newman, which will stage a couple of special performances.

On Friday, Aug. 3, the Rob Hill Band is on the schedule, doors open at 7 p.m. and show time is 8 p.m., with $10 general admission.

The Rob Hill Band, formed in 2012 and from Modesto, features piano-based original music that blends the traditional elements of soul, pop, jazz, and blues. Throughout the Central Valley they are known for their passionate live performances. In 2016, they won a Modesto Area Music Award (MAMA) in the Jazz and Blues category. The band creates its unique sound by weaving together the incendiary guitar stylings of veteran musician and Newman native Mike Homen with the classically trained and back-up vocals of Charles Ryan, and the signature percussion of Ray Vazira on drums.

On Saturday, Aug. 4 enjoy a Cash Tribute featuring James Garner. Cost is $25 general admission and $28 for the reserved section. Students admitted half-price. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show time is 8 p.m.

James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash celebrates the life and music of the Man in Black with strong conviction and stunning accuracy. Garner and his band faithfully recreate Cash’s biggest hits, such as Folsom Prison Blues, I Walk the Line and Ring of Fire, and incorporate historical accounts and personal anecdotes about America’s most beloved singing storyteller in this not-to-be-missed musical event. The show is a fun, classy and toe-tapping trip down memory lane honoring Johnny Cash’s life and music, and the boom-chicka-boom sound of his signature backing band, the Tennessee Three.
