Youth Travel Basketball

Tryouts for the Girls ‘Stangs Youth Travel Basketball are fast approaching. Open to girls in fifth through 10th grades, tryouts are scheduled on Feb. 13 and Feb. 15; grades five and six from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; grades seven and eight from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the west end of the main gym; grades nine and 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the east end of the main gym. Those interested must sign up online for travel ball tryouts. Sign-ups, waiver, and more information, including a calendar of practice dates, can be found online at: stangsbasketball.weebly.com. There is no cost to try out, cost is $100 for the season if the player makes the team. Financial assistance is available if needed.

 

‘Stangs Basketball Club

Starting Wednesday, Jan. 16 the Oakdale ‘Stangs Basketball opens their preseason camp. The camp is run by Oakdale High School coach Hondo Arpoika and his staff, open to young aspiring basketball players from fourth to eighth grade. The preseason camp dates are Jan. 16, 26, 30 and Feb. 9 at Oakdale High School.

The first date (Jan. 16) is for fourth through sixth graders from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. inside the small gym. Saturday, Jan. 26 players fourth through eighth grade will report from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. inside the school’s main gym. On Wednesday, Jan. 30 fourth through eighth grade players will report from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. inside the main gym and on Saturday, Feb. 9 it is the official tryouts for grades fourth through eighth grade from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. inside the main gym. Memorial Run Slated

The 27th annual Don Osborne Memorial Run, sponsored by the Oakdale Lions Club, is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2 and starts at the Oakdale Library, corner of G Street and South First Avenue. Both a 5k run and a one mile run/walk are offered with registration and packet pick up from 8 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on race day. The one mile starts at 9 a.m. with the 5k at 9:30 a.m. and the awards ceremony at 10:15 a.m. Race day registration fee for adults, 19 and up, is $28. Youth cost for those 9 to 18 is $10; children under 9 are free. The course is on flat, paved city streets with traffic control provided along the route. Fish At Oak Grove

Oak Grove Regional Park, W. 4520 Eight-Mile Road, Stockton, has been stocked with Rainbow Trout, thanks to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Park officials are encouraging anglers to enjoy some winter fishing. Kids fish free and the cost is only $5 for anglers age 16 and older (valid California fishing license required). Parking is $5 weekdays, $6 most weekends. Bring your pole and a picnic lunch and spend the afternoon fishing at Oak Grove.
