STANFORD “SANDY” HUDSON SLATE
passed away at the age of 86, with his loving and devoted wife Doris by his side. He passed away due to complications from heart surgery. He was a resident of Lake Tulloch, CA, but spent much of his adult life in San Jose, CA.
Sandy was born on December 6th, 1928, in Modesto, CA. After graduating from Modesto High School, starting his career at Sears Roebuck, and marrying his high school sweetheart, he served 2 years in the military during the Korean War. He was discharged as a Sergeant First Class and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge for his service. He returned to Sears, relocating first to Walnut Creek, CA, and eventually San Jose, CA, where he lived for 25 years, raising his family and enjoying a successful 38 year career at the company.
Sandy was fortunate to retire at an early age, and spent 30 years in retirement at his beloved Lake Tulloch with his wife, building a house, traveling, boating, fishing, barbequing and enjoying his family, grandchildren, and many friends to the fullest. Sandy will be remembered as a kind and generous family man who made friends with everyone he met. He had an inventor’s spirit and a great sense of humor. He will be forever missed.
Sandy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (McGehee) Slate, and his children Stan (Tracey) Slate, Becki (Bruno) Filice, sister Jean (Glen) Davisson), brother Bob (Jill) Slate, and his grandchildren Betsy, Dominic and Gabriana. He is pre-deceased by his son, Thomas, parents, Joseph Slate and Ruth McKay, and siblings JoAnne Hitts, Mary Givens, Janet Watson and Dick Slate.
A celebration of Sandy’s life will be held in the near future. Please remember him with a donation to your favorite charity.
