Frederick (Fuzzy, Fiddling Fred) Michael Stepp, born October 18, 1944 to Fred and Clara Stepp of Sacramento left this earth on November 11, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Fred proudly served as a Seabee in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. As a dedicated Veteran he unselfishly and proudly gave his time and talents, participating in parades, Honor Guard, and traveling to retirement centers to entertain residents. Fred was always the first to offer to help and volunteer his time. He provided many manhours helping at the Oakdale Sportsman’s Club - but his real passion was music. He loved to play his fiddle! He played almost every night with the many people that he met along his journey. His dream was to build a local music room where all musicians, young and old, could come and play music together every week; he made this dream come true a number of years ago and had jam sessions at his ranch twice a week. Fred had a spirit about him that is seen in no other. He was a dedicated family man, with enough love to go around. This world is a bit dimmer without him in it.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kathy, daughter Janaine Conley, son Aron (Amanda) Stepp, and grandchildren, Kody, Kourtney, and Owen Conley, Madeleine, Emily, Wyatt, and Bailey Stepp, and honorary granddaughter Bronte Lucero; and his sister Carol (Tom) Margetich. Visitation Services are to be held at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel (830 West F Street, Oakdale) November 26, 2019 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of Life on November 30, 2019 Noon, at the Oakdale Sportsman’s Club. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made in Fred’s memory to the Oakdale Music Boosters (mail check to PO Box 2205, Oakdale CA 95361) or Modesto Vet Center (mail check to 1219 N. Carpenter Road, Ste. 12, Modesto CA 95351 – Santiago Sanchez - 209-569-071.
