Only a few more Thursdays are left for Oakdale residents to enjoy fresh produce, mingle with neighbors, and enjoy a warm summer evening in downtown Oakdale as the city’s Certified Farmers Market ends its season at the end of August.

One recent vendor who began selling goods at the market last month is Sheila Burch, who offers an assortment of honey. Burch and her husband own and rent out beehives to local farmers to pollinate their orchards, and decided last year to use the bees to produce locally flavored honey.

Setting their beehives in various locations throughout Stanislaus County, including Oakdale, Burch is able to offer sage, blackberry, and wild flower honey among her different products.

“I like the farmers market in Oakdale,” she said. “It’s a nice family market.”

Betsie Corwin of the Shelter Pet Alliance was once again offering dogs and cats for adoption at the market on Aug. 5. The group has been active at the market for the past few years, and has found it to be a successful venue for pet adoptions.

“We love the Farmers Market,” she said.

Visitors to the weekly market have the chance to purchase some of the freshest fruits and vegetables around, some coming in from the fields shortly before heading to market. Many booths offer in season favorites such as corn, squash, peaches, plums and more, while there are also food booths and snacks. A number of Oakdale businesses along the Third Street corridor also stay open later hours during the market, offering their wares to shoppers as well and some market nights have included special musical entertainment.

The Oakdale Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., and the last market of the season will be offered on Aug. 26.
