AvThe 2011 National Night Out celebration for Oakdale will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 2 in Burchell Park. The three-hour event starts at 5:30 p.m. and is open to all area residents.
Burchell Park is located at the east end of East C Street in the Burchell Hill neighborhood.
National Night Out is an annual celebration where neighborhoods all over the United States have block parties and neighborhood celebrations to “give crime a going away party.”
Oakdale’s celebration is brought to the community by the City of Oakdale, the Oakdale Police Department, and the Oakdale National Night Out Committee (made up of Neighborhood Watch members). There are also many local businesses that help make the event possible by their generous donations.
This year, the Burchell Hill Neighborhood Watch is hosting the citywide event and everyone is invited. Highlights of the event include free hot dogs and water for dinner, popcorn, shaved ice, and popsicles for dessert. There will be a variety of door prizes given away. Kids will enjoy games, prizes, face painting, balloons, clowns, and much more. Oakdale’s police and fire departments will be well represented and have emergency vehicles on hand for everyone to see up close. Also planned for the second year, is the National Night Out Classic Car Show.
