Oakdale Man Arrested In Modesto Murder Case

Stanislaus County Sheriff’s detectives arrested an Oakdale man in connection with a Sept. 15 homicide that occurred in the airport area of unincorporated Modesto.

On Thursday, Sept. 22, after following leads from the case, detectives and the Sheriff’s SWAT team served three search warrants related to the case. Two search warrants were served in Stanislaus County and one was served in Manteca.

According to a sheriff’s department press release, the investigation led task force deputies to the Budget Inn & Suites on Hammer Lane in Stockton, where Abraham Martinez, 25, of Oakdale was arrested at approximately 4:40 p.m.

On Sept. 15 around 5:20 a.m., deputies and firefighters had responded to Mono Drive and South Santa Ana Avenue in Modesto regarding an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. When firefighters arrived they found 40-year-old William Chatman of Modesto with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Chatman was transported to a local emergency room where he later died as a result of his injuries.

Martinez was booked into the Stanislaus County jail for murder. Martinez was being held without bail in the Stanislaus County jail, facing charges of murder, assault with a firearm and violation of post-release supervision.
