Despite an uncertain future over its affiliation with Oak Valley Hospital, The Oak Valley Foundation strives on, unphased, in its gallant fundraising efforts.

On Friday, May 17, the foundation held its annual Wine, Women, and Chocolate Gala benefitting women’s heath with part of this year’s proceeds going to the Center for Human Services and their young women’s and family health services.

With the smooth music of Michael Buble in the background, more than 200 women, sipping wine and nibbling chocolate covered strawberries, filled the Reata Event Center on the sunny spring afternoon.

This year’s theme from the Marilyn Monroe quote, “Give a woman the right shoes, and she can conquer the world,” was prevalent in high-heeled centerpieces decorating the facility.

“We haven’t been given a list by the hospital for any needed items,” said event organizer and foundation vice-president Lana Casey. “Our main focus today is to continue on as we always have in our philanthropic work for women’s wellness and the entire community.”

At a board meeting last month, hospital board members held off on a decision to disassociate the hospital with the historic and popular fund-raising arm in favor of CEO John McCormick’s recommendation of a newly-appointed director hired by him that would seek funds through philanthropic activity, grant writing, and special events.

“We will keep doing fundraising and providing ambulances for the hospital,” said Foundation President Saundra Sward during the afternoon festivity that included a fashion show and auction. “I hope the community will continue to support us as a foundation.”
