Fatal Accident Claims Life Of Oakdale Man

A Saturday evening solo vehicle accident along Highway 108 just east of Riverbank resulted in the death of an Oakdale man.

Authorities said the 50-year-old driver, identified as Isidro Rodriguez-De La Cruz, left the roadway for an unknown reason near Mesa Drive, striking a tree. A young passenger in the back seat of the car, a 9-year-old boy, according to authorities, was taken to the hospital as a precaution but did not appear to have any serious injuries.

The crash occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday and the car burst into flames upon impact with the tree. The car, a 1999 Dodge, had been eastbound on the highway, and came to rest facing westbound off the roadway at the intersection with Mesa Drive following the accident. PG&E crews were called in as well, with damage to an electrical wire as the result of the crash, said authorities.

The name of the driver was released through the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

CHP officials said the passenger was pulled from the car by passing motorists, who also utilized a fire extinguisher to try and put out the flames. The 9-year-old was wearing a seatbelt, the CHP added.
